The novel differs from other novels in means of plot, the plot is made way back 1998's from Rohan's first teen school love to college love. What made me to feel the change is way author delivered the characters and their significance clearly. He took me back to the years were no social media's influence people most and he given me opportunity to feel the connection between two souls without any technologies.

The narration was done in first person point of view and been good till end where climax have major twist to the story which adds more emotional to the ship which is already sailing with emotions. The vocabularies used was simple, hence more lucid.

Overall, My Mute Girlfriend will be a quite interesting one to read which I likes to recommend for love story enthusiasts and new budding readers.

My Mute Girlfriend is the complicated love story of Rohan and Vaidehi and their ups and downs throughout their journey of love and relationship. The author told me that this book is not merely a story for him but his real life experience and very close to his heart which further made me more intrigued to read the book.

So, the story starts with Rohan getting a text from Vaidehi after 5 long years. In a hurry to contact her, his phone falls in cow dung, damaging it completely. Rohan, working as an engineer in the telecom industry , tries hard to get Vaidehi's contact number and fortunately gets it. While travelling from Meerut to Dehradun and trying to contact Vaidehi he reminisces his old school and college memories. He makes the readers aware of his past by taking them to his engineering days.

Rohan loved Navya since 12th standard and was working towards his career in order to propose her one day. He always used to dream about their marriage and wrote poems for her. While going for the counselling for his selection in an engineering college, he first saw Vaidehi and something inside him told him to pursue the course she chose for herself. After selecting his college in Jabalpur, he made many new friends and started enjoying his college life. He met Vaidehi in the class and instantly felt connected to her. But his love for Navya, never let him confess anything to Vaidehi.

After realising his true feelings for Vaidehi, Rohan proposed her and they two started dating each other. They were THE PERFECT couple and made for each other but their love story was short lived. Rohan was threatened by Vaidehi's mother to never ever contact her again. She stopped talking to Rohan and started ignoring him. Rohan was heartbroken and miserably failed in his 3rd semester. But things changed later and he topped in 4th semester leaving Vaidehi behind. But even this achievement of his couldn't shake Vaidehi's muteness towards him. Nothing changed for them and Rohan left the city in order to pursue his career.

Now the mystery is What had happened that things change upside down? What actually happened that led Vaidehi to become Rohan's mute girlfriend ? Was Vaidehi using him or there was some motive hidden? Why did she text him after 5 years?

Read the book to get your answers.

The story was simple and a bit predictable but the author was able to build a bit of suspense. I loved how the author explained his college days and the fun he had with friends - It all felt so real. The language is easy and understandable with good narrative. The author was to able to describe each and every emotion so vividly that I actually felt them while reading the book. Overall it was an amazing read with a few twists and turns.

Blurb: The blurb portion of the book contains exactly the gist of the plot. It is highlighting the key factors of the story and as an individual reader I can say that the blurb is capable to make the reader go through the inner content of the book. So, it is good and apt in my opinion.

Cover: The front cover of the book is romantic, touching & the color combination in the design is eye catching as well. It is justifying the theme and substance of the book, so I'd like say that an appreciable work done by the cover designer Wasim Helal.

Title: Well, here I have something to say. The title was the first thing that literally tempted me to opt for this book. Yes, I am confessing that if it was not for the title, I would have never thought to go for this book. The uniqueness of this book is based on two things and one of them is its title. I was eager to know that what can be inside the story and why someone's girlfriend is being mentioned here as 'Mute'! I got my answer and realized the justification of this title after reaching a certain point in the story. I can say that the same thing will happen to the readers as well because it will make a reader curious enough to turn the pages of the book. As it is justifying the story completely, hence I consider this appropriate.

Language & narration: The language of the book is lucid and simple enough to comprehend. Non English language (such as Hindi) has been written in Italic font to make them noticeable from the main flow of the speech. Even the past incidents inside the flashback of old days (while reminiscing about Navya) have been mentioned in Italic font to make them look differently thus the reader won't get confused while reading. Vivid descriptive narration is one of the main positive strengths of this book. The authoritative narrating style made the scenes and the events visualizing in front of the eyes and I personally felt that the way the author beautifully narrated both the different eras (days back then and now present day) while balancing the flow of the story intact, is something made this book more pleasant read indeed. Less exaggerations & small lengthy chapters will help the readers to keep the focus in the main story.

Plot: As it is a true romance story written by Himanshu Rai reminiscing his college days, keeping this fact in mind, I'd like to say that the author has crafted a well contained and potentially significant plot and woven that to give the shape of a heart touching soulful love story. I will mention that this plot contains some subplots also to justify the base of the story, but as I mentioned earlier, staying within limitations, the way the author has developed the depth of the story is no doubt commendable. I am pretty much fond of different types of love stories and thus, not many plots have the ability to surprise me, but this plot has that, I admit.

Setting: The setting of the story is mainly in Jabalpur and places around there, but as per the story progress, we'll witness the mention of some other places too and they are-Bhedaghat, Khatuli – Meerut, Dehradun, Sagar – Madhya Pradesh, Delhi.

Characterization: I must admit that crystal clear characterization is probably the most positive point of this book. The author has portrayed each and every character (be it the protagonists or any minor character) with utmost significance of their own and every one of them has done justice to their respective roles throughout the story. As it is a true romantic story, that's why, the author was in need of to take extra care while portraying the authenticity of the characters in mind and he has successfully managed this part. Readers (like me) will be able to connect with the characters instantly and this will help the reader to live the journey of the book. Let's have a look at the names of the characters mentioned in the story- Rohan Verma, Vaidehi Sharma, Rajesh, Navya, Surbhi, Anuj, Vikram, Renu, Rana, Chhotu, Akash, Daman Shrivastava, Vineet, Manjula Ranjan, Priti Ma'am, Tavish, Chaaru, Anurag Thakur, Sonal, Neeraj, Rama Lingam Kulati Ieyar aka 'Anna', Dhruv, Rahul, Majhar, Raman, Anjum Sir, Reena, Kamal, Mahajan Sir, Vedanta, Dr. Chawla. (Parents of the characters are included along with them).

Theme: Romance, Friendship, Love

Story in a nutshell: The story revolves around the life of the male & female protagonists (Rohan & Vaidehi) of the story and people around them related with incidents & counter incidents. Rohan Verma was from Sagar (a small town in Madhya Pradesh) and belonged to a decent, well manageable & stable family background with loving parents and an elder sister (Surbhi). He was not a highly bright student during his school (missionary) days in St. Joseph. After getting a huge crush or we can say strong infatuation towards a junior (Kavya) in his school, marks of his 12th board exams got affected too as he just managed to score second division marks. Due to the lack of proper courage or we can say, in the wait of the right deserving time to come (after becoming an engineer), Rohan did not propose or express his feelings ever towards Navya, and then he knew that Navya too used to nurse feelings for him. But then, life took its role over Rohan's life and he managed to secure a rank of 3034 in PET (Pre Engineering Test). His father and his entire family had a dream to see their son becoming an engineer and create his self identity in this competitive market. It was the era of 1998 and that time technology was not so affordable like now for everyone. Only a few could manage to afford mobile back that time and considered as privileged too. However, though he was determined to take Computer Science as the stream of engineering but, right at the time of counseling he opted for Electronics & Telecommunication and enrolled himself for a prestigious college in Jabalpur. But that was the turning point of his life, because he crossed path with a charming & simple girl (Vaidehi) at the time of counseling and indirectly or unknowingly she made him change his decision, as she enrolled herself for the same college and stream as well.
After beginning college life, Rohan faced many a kind of situations that every engineering student usually faces in academic life. He befriended with Vaidehi there and managed to make some genuine close buddies as well in the hostel. Though Vaidehi had an image of an egoistic girl with full of attitude among her classmates in her hometown at Jabalpur, but she was not that Vaidehi while being with Rohan. Yes, Rohan was unsure about his feelings for Vaidehi but somehow managed to create a firm and good impression on her and frequent deep interactions between them brought them closer and made their bonding inseparable. Meanwhile, Rohan realized that his feelings towards Navya were just nothing but infatuation & he admitted that he loves Vaidehi. After confessing his feelings towards Vaidehi, he realized that she was having the same intense love for him in her heart. Love blossomed between them to the core, and their sweet innocent genuine bond of soulful love made their life more beautiful in every aspect.
Their life and relationship was going fine and smoothly and growing intense with each passing day and Rohan got himself lost in love with Vaidehi. But destiny mocked them after a time. Vaidehi stopped talking with or any kind of conversing with Rohan completely and in a sudden way. Vaidehi parted her way with Rohan after the 1st year of their engineering, but didn't stop caring for him neither stopped being concerned for him. Vaidehi's separation broke Rohan completely and shattered his heart and collapsed his mental peace as well.
What happened after that? What was the reason that made Vaidehi part her ways with Rohan? Why suddenly she stopped talking with Rohan? What was the fault of Rohan? Why did she not stop caring for him? After that event, how did Rohan manage to get himself stable? How long will Rohan be able to love Vaidehi? Will Vaidehi ever reciprocate his love again? Will they be together again? What life had in store for both of them? Will Vaidehi ever start conversing with Rohan or…she will remain as his mute girlfriend forever?
To know the entire story and to get all your answers, just grab your copy of this book and live their journey by yourself.

My Verdict: Author Himanshu Rai has penned down this heart wrenching tale of love very beautifully and it has touched the right chord of my heart triggering every kind of emotions accordingly. I was not sure actually about the ending, because I generally come across such books that provides impactful ending of course, but after realizing the titular reference of this book, I was not very clear about what is awaiting in the end; but soon after I finished this, I can say that this book has left a big impact in my mind and it will last for a long time indeed. It is actually the truth that if you don't grab your opportunity according to the right time of life, and continue to wait for more appropriate moment, life may not offer you the same chance twice. The little story between Navya & Rohan could have been taken a better turn instead of ending on a heavy heart note, but Rohan was not meant to be hers; probably that's why neither of the two confessed their feelings to each other ever. But more significant saying is, we cannot decide when to fall in love with whom; Love just takes a click inside heart to get the same rhythm with another heart and they just start to beat together for each other- Vaidehi & Rohan's journey was the same. Otherwise, who will even think of changing the preference of choosing a stream of education just for a completely unknown girl? It is a fact that we can never imagine what is waiting for us in the next moment or what kind of turn is waiting in front of us in our life; because life has its own way to surprise us… So, all we can do is to make the best memories from the moment we have and continue to cherish them forever. Life is too short to live with regrets. The soulful, unconditional, true love of Vaidehi has captured my heart completely, and the genuine feelings of Rohan, his pain, heartache, agony, dilemma, struggle, mental conflict, concern, love for Vaidehi, everything touched me. Vaidehi's sacrifice was even unimaginable for anyone and the contribution that Vaidehi had in Rohan's life was non repayable by any way. Kavya's feelings for Rohan was truly heart touching. The family bonding, the relation between parents and their children, the sibling love between Rohan & Surbhi, the pain and crying heart of a parents, everything has been portrayed in the book effortlessly. The letter from Vaidehi to Rohan pierced my heart I was not able to control my tears. It made me cry after a longtime while reading. I was not able to read properly at the end because of my tears. The strong bonding of true friendship has been shown here to make a person realize that how important it is for anyone to have close friends in life. Last but not the least, the character of Neeraj was the most important side character in the aspect of significance. I can say that, after reading this touching piece of work, my expectations from the author has reached another level already. Waiting for his next.

Drawbacks: In the sense of drawback, honestly speaking I haven't found any. Just one single and the tiniest printing mistake in the entire book and that is surely won't be considered as a drawback. Still, I am mentioning it here, so that it can be corrected in the next edition of this book. That is- (Page no. 31) "….a big ground where some of the seniors (where) / were playing cricket."

Recommendation: I'd love to recommend this lovely book to every romance lovers, love enthusiasts, and to all the avid readers who are looking forward to read a genuine touching tale of love. This book won't disappoint them I can say because it is a time & read worthy book. Thank you.

My Favorite lines from the book: "A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out."
"Successful and unsuccessful people do not differ in their abilities. They vary in their desire to reach their potential."

Rating (Overall): 4/5 Stars.

A simple romance story with a not so clichéd plotline.

I have read many books based on college romances and I thought that My Mute Girlfriend would have a similar clichéd plot. But, I was quite surprised to find that the plot is very different from all those heaps of college romances out there.

This book again has an engineering college as the backdrop. Rohan's family, equivalent to a typical Indian family where people chant the word "engineering" probably hundred times a day. It has become a mantra which is recited almost everyday. Rohan clears his entrance exams with a rank of three thousand and thirty four. Even though he knew he had to study for his entrance exams, Rohan didn't miss a chance to stare at the framed photograph that sat on his study table. He always dreamt of spending the rest of his life with Navya, his childhood crush. But he could never work up the courage and express his feelings before her. There's always a right time to do everything and once you miss the chance or you save it for future, you're letting the chance slip from between your fingers.

Crush is the first jitters of love a person experiences in his/her life. Carrying this unrequited love for Navya, Rohan moves to his engineering college all the while promising that he will come back one day and tell her how he feels. As he starts to settle in his new life routine, with each passing day, his feelings starts to slacken.

At first when I first read the title, I didn't think it would be connected to the storyline. I took it for a random title, my bad. But with each chapter, the story progresses, it becomes clear why the book is titled as My Mute Girlfriend. This book does have a bit of the Fault in Our Stars and Everything Everything vibes to it. But, I am not going to give any spoilers. The ending of this book was perfect. Not overdone.

"That day I realized I had lost her forever. I had lost her smile, her friendship, her voice…
But still, somewhere in my heart, I believed her to be my girlfriend. My mute girlfriend."

The narration is really good and the author has managed to handle the language competently, though simple it isn't maladroit. The characters have been effectively sketched and they kept developing with each chapter, which is again a plus point. The scenes were well-written. The word flow and the sentence structuring was really good which in turn made the scenes lively.

One thing which irked me when I was reading the book; I noticed that when the characters delivered their dialogues, they weren't very expressive. So, the dialogues felt pretty bland and the characters seemed to be emotionless while they were conversing which made me unable to really connect with them and FEEL them. Except that, it's a pretty good book which just doesn't show the characters falling in love but also talks about the true meaning of love.

But there are some pros and cons in the book, which hold me to widespread it in a single sit. The story is a good page turner and in a few pictures of the book, I recall some beautiful memories of my Engineering life. I would say it's a one-time good read and climax will bring tears to your optics for sure. Love is a delightful sensation created by God and it experiences both positive and negative impacts on human life.
Now approaching the story, Rohan loves Navya from the school time and never express his feelings to her. Navya also loves her and waiting to listen to the confession of love from Rohan. He wants to express his feeling to her when he became got a good position in life, but things are going to change in forthcoming days. He went to counselling with his parents and something peculiar happen there and he chooses Electronics and telecommunication instead of computer science. Few ragging scenes show in the book, I totally not agree with it. I.e. how can anyone resist 120 slaps and stand consciously. It's not fit in any fiction or real life. The second thing is few scenes look like adapted from Bollywood movies.
He met Vaidehi for the second time in his classroom when she was ragged by one of their seniors. After the ragging done, they sat in the same row and their friendship grows deep like they forget the entire class and college when they found each other company on the college campus. People started talking about them as they are, love birds. But still, now both are unaware of such bonding grows between them. Rohan likes her company and forgets Navya. Sometimes he was confused, whether he loves Navya or Vaidehi. Finally, one day he proposes her and she put him in the confusion, she accepts that his love proposal or not. And insist him to meet her on the college campus. She accepts his proposal and asks him to never reveal their relationship to anyone in college. Both lovebirds were in ninth cloud and forget the entire world. After the semester exam end everyone went to their respective hometown and when returned from his place, Vaidehi started avoiding Rohan. After several attempts, she remains quiet as he did not exist. What had happened that things change upside down? Why Rohan named her Mute girlfriend. What a storm comes in their life and did they unite once again?
So many things opened up, once you go through the book. You will not disappointed for sure. A simple story with twist and turn mode.

Overview

My Mute Girlfriend is written by Himanshu Rai which is a romantic love tale in the background of Engineering college between Rohan and Vaidehi. The story revolves around how and why Rohan's love Vaidehi, turned into his Mute Girlfriend after the first year of their engineering college. It is not a story like the many of the college stories, it tells initially start on how Rohan had a crush on his schoolmate Navya but he could never have the courage and express his feelings before and how he found the love of his life in Vaidehi once he met her at college. How and Vaidehi changed from his lady love to his mute girlfriend is the theme of the story

Picturization

The story is been narrated in simple English with will have every reader remind of their college days. All the characters in the book have been presented well by the author.

Title and Book Cover
The title of the book can be taken as a positive in two ways:
For all those who haven't read the book, the title Mute girlfriend would be surprising and curious to know why and an Eye-catching one.
And once you know about Rohan and Vaidehi's life the Title is 100 % justifiable

Book cover could have been improved as something more colorful and relevant, but as every reader knows - You should never judge a book by its cover

My Mute Girlfriend is a true romance story of how Rohan unravels the answers to why Vaidehi was mute for so long, and how their life is about to change. But little do they know that the worst is yet to come.⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, to find out the reason behind Vaidehi muteness, you will have to pick the book and read.

My Review:
♥There are few romantic stories, not that dramatic but when we read, it feels so real and leaves us speechless at the same time, the best part is we are able to connect with it and this is that one book. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
♥This book has all flavours of life: Love, friendship, college, hostel, heartbreak, struggle, success. ⠀⠀
♥It's a complicated love story with a little bit of suspense which will keep you guessing the end, till the end. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
♥Few parts of the book are damn relatable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
♥I loved the way the writer has expressed all the emotions so beautifully in the book, it looks so real. I literally cried reading the end plus a few of the letters in between the story makes it more realistic. ⠀⠀⠀
♥The title looks attractive, language is simple but the cover of the book would have been better. ⠀⠀
♥Highly recommended to the people who are into the romantic genre.

Characterization- Characters are justified properly with more or less depth given to every character which helps to make this story complex.

Storyline and Plot- Storyline of the book is plain with few of twists and turns throughout the book to keep readers interested in the book. All the scenes are rightly places with exiting and fast paced story.

However, Plot construction is commendable. Himanshu beautifully merges the relatable characters and the story.

The narration is smooth , language is lucid that makes connecting with the characters easy. The fact that it talks about those first ever days when you develop a warm liking towards someone where you have not got social media and you have to wait for many hours or days just to have a glimpse of that lovable person or a few words with them feels warm and sweet. The cover was not at all unique, but the vivid colours used are very beautiful though .All together a good read if not unique but enjoyable for young adult romance lovers.

My take on the book:

The story starts with Rohan receiving a message form Vaidehi after 5 long years. While trying to contact her back, his phone falls in cow-dung.

Later, Rohan gives us a glimpse into his past. While travelling from Meerut to Dehradun he tells us about their college romance. Rohan was in love with Navya since his 12th class. He had always dreamt of a future with Navya. But later on he meets Vaidehi, they fall in love.

From being friends they start dating each other. But another twist in the story. Vaidehi stops talking to Rohan out of nowhere. She doesn't give him a reason not a closure.

Many question will arise in your mind while reading this book. Why didn't Vaidehi give a reason to Rohan? Was she just using him? Was she under some pressure? Why did she turn into his Mute girlfriend? Why is she messaging him after 5 long years? What does she want now?

You have to read the book, to get answers.

The title of the book is very catchy. The writing style is very simple. The characters are built up well. The story starts in 2003 and then shuttles between the years 2003 and 1998. I just felt that Navya's character should have been described a bit more.

Overall a good read.

Recommended to beginners and romance lovers!

My take- When I stared reading this, I felt its the routine teenage love story. But when the flashbacks ends, story takes the turn. Unpredictable end. Lots of twists and turns. School life, college life of engineering, hostel, ragging and result scenarios are perfectly described. One extra star is definable for unpredictable end. Light read. Simple and easily understandable language. Routine love story yet different. Last few chapters are really heart touching. Must read for romance lovers!!

The words Mute Girlfriend had an appeal and promised tragedy. It had a suspense whether she was dumb or trying to ignore him or stopped talking or broke up, So this kinda aroused the curiosity.

The starting of the book is from 2003 but the start of the real story is from way back in 1998. The four year gap in the story and book comprises of the whole story that takes place. The alternate stories by the author makes the book sound good. The writing style of the author is very simple, too simple. Instead of using a few beautiful words just at the end, the author might have tried to weave the story more beautifully.

I loved the characters a lot. The writing style was just okay but the characters with flaws had me loving them. The addiction that stayed with the protagonist was the reminder for me that life continues whatever happens. The depiction of the pain by the author felt very real and arouses emotions into the readers.

The ending was expected as well as unexpected for me. There are several lines that will feel too true and near your heart. The characters are also well developed. Other friends of Rohan are also given proper importance but the same cannot be said about Vaidehi's friend's character. Navya's character was also ignored a lot. Vaidehi was shown in several lights by the author and the letter by her explained everything. I liked her character but the love at first sight concept was too cheesy to accept. Although the author has tried to make it slow burning romance, he has not succeeded completely.

It's been after a long time after I have read a book and reviewed it. I tried to change the kind of books I generally read and came across this book, read it and finally decided to review the book named "My Mute Girlfriend" by Himanshu Rai.

The title of the novel itself makes the reader wonder that would have happened that all of a sudden the protagonist's girlfriend becomes mute. Hence, I would admit the title of the book made it tempting to read the book. I felt that the title was totally justified in the book.

It has been quite a journey to all the places the writer Himanshu Rai took us with his book and his writing should be truly commended. He has beautifully woven a soulful love story, which touches the strings of our heart. There are some sub-plots mentioned in the book like a part containing Navya's feelings along with Vineet's which brings out the depth and different feelings of the people who were an internal part of the love story and they totally justify their position in the book. I have read many love stories with twisted plots and this is one of those, which made them more enthralling.

Characters:

Rohan Verma, Vaidehi Sharma, Rajesh, Navya, Surbhi, Anuj, Vikram, Renu, Rana, Chhotu, Akash, Daman Shrivastava, Vineet, Manjula Ranjan, Priti Ma'am, Anjum Sir, Reena, Kamal, Mahajan Sir, Vedanta, Dr. Chawla.Tavish, Chaaru, Anurag Thakur, Sonal, Neeraj, Rama Lingam Kulati Ieyar aka 'Anna', Dhruv, Rahul, Majhar, Raman.
One of the best part of the book is that along with the plot even the characters are described with so perfection that it makes us connect with the book more easily. The protagonist Rohan Verma and Vaidehi Sharma's characters are shown in such manner that their description takes book on another level.

Story: The story of the book revolves around a boy (Protagonist) named Rohan Verma who lives in a small town of Madhya Pradesh named Sagar with his small but well manageable and stable family of 4 members consisting of his parents and his elder sister, Surbhi. Rohan was not highly a bright student during his school. In his school he had a crush on his junior Navya which turns out to be just an infatuation which affected his 12th Board exams. This made him wait for just a perfect time so that he could propose to her. He then secures a rank of 3000+ in PET (Pre Engineering Test). His family along with him had a dream to see him as an engineer and seeing him getting close to it just multiplied their happiness. Little did he know that his life was completely going to change one day after this. He goes for counselling to choose his branch but at the end moment he saw her. He saw Vaidehi (the female protagonist). He instead of choosing the branch he desired, chose the branch Electronics and Telecommunication which completely changed because even Vaidehi chose the same college and the same branchAfter reaching college Rohan starts living a totally different life. He starts experiencing his new life over there. He befriended Vaidehi and finds friends in hostel who turned out to be his true friends. His deep conversations with her and their small and cute interactions became quite a thing so. Vaidehi who was an "egoistic" girl of the college but with him she was totally different person.

Later he realised that what he had for Navya was just an infatuation and his heart felt way different for Vaidehi. So he decided to confess his feelings to Vaidehi. Things became more beautiful when he got to know Vaidehi felt the same way. Love blossomed between them and they were living the happiest moment of their life. However, one-day fate mocked them on their face. Vaidehi wasn't anymore what she was. Her behaviour towards Rohan changed completely. There was something wrong and the worst part was Rohan could not what was wrong which slowly disturbed his mental peace. But what brought a change in Vaidehi? What was the change that made her take such a big decision of being quite and not talk to Rohan and leave him ultimately? Will they be together again? With multiple questions this book takes you to a journey of love, sacrifice, family and what not?

Review: I did not have any idea how the story would end because I generally come across such books that provides sometimes clichéd ending but I was totally proved wrong. One of the message that this story gives you is that sometimes you should grab the opportunity that is infront of you at the right time and not wait for it for long. There could have been a little story of Navya with Rohan but its shown that he was never meant to be hers or otherwise. But more significant saying is, we cannot decide when to fall in love with whom. Nobody has a control over his or her feelings. Love is not something, which happens with people we want to. Life is not at predictable. We have to feel the moment we are living and with no regrets in our life because life is too short to regret about things. It has its own of scaring, surprising and bring floods of emotions in people life. The feelings of all the characters in the book has been shown quite beautifully in this nobvel. May it be Rohan's agony, love or Vaidehi's possessiveness or his mother caring nature all of them has been shown perfectly. The little parts of Kavya and other characters show the story from their side. Vaidehi's sacrifice was even unimaginable for anyone and the contribution that Vaidehi had in Rohan's life was simply amazing. Though written in less pages as compared to other books, Himanshu Rai's "My Mute Girlfriend" has successfully touched its reader's heart. So discover what this book has for you and you surely won't be disappointed.

The story is based in an old-school time – phone booths, teenage love, non-digital era etc. The protagonist of the story is Rohan, who is going through some serious love life issues – whom is he in love with – Vaidehi or Navya. While he is soon successful in coming to that conclusion, like all relationships there were ups and downs which are revealed as one proceeds with the story. The good part about this book is the marriage between love and friendship which is very well highlighted.

I am sure the name of the book will get readers to speculate and to know more you should read it. The narration is done in first person and the author has played well with words. The author has made a good attempt in giving life to the characters, though at certain points I felt they fell flat in dialogue delivery. The plot and climax are well put and overall it wasn't a bummer.

I would recommend the book if you're a love story fanatic and someone who doesn't despise a little sad-story reading.

Well, after a long time a book made me so emotional. Himanshu Rai has given his best piece of work to his readers I must say. The story is touching and very well woven, it is simple and connected easily as I flipped the pages. I must confess that I finished reading all the 208 pages of the book in 3 hours. It has been quite some time since I got glued to a book like this. It was a fast read and an enjoyable one for sure.

The characters Rohan, Vaidehi, Akash, Rahul, Vineet, Reena, and Chaaru have been brought to life by the author effortlessly. It is a typical love story that happens almost in every student's life hence, it can connect to the audience at ease. The best bit in the book which I loved the most is about the boys' hostel life and the way the other boys tease Rohan linking with Vaidehi. The language is simple and easily understandable.

The story starts when Rohan, a Telecommunication Engineer receives a message from his long-time lover, Vaidehi. Rohan, a boy from Sagar, Madhya-Pradesh who takes a break to study for his entrance develops a huge attraction towards his junior at school Navya and puts his heart and soul to clear the entrance exams to become an Engineer. His idea of getting into an Engineering course is to propose Navya and convince his parents to accept their relationship.

Being an average scorer right from his school days Rohan happens to meet Vaidehi during his course counseling at one of the centers. He gets smitten by her right at the first meet and chooses the same college and stream as hers just because he gets to see her despite having tremendous passion towards Computer Science. The two of them become very good friends and slowly as the relationship evolves, Rohan starts to get confused to choose between Navya and Vaidehi. While Vaidehi is famous for her high attitude and arrogance she reveals a different persona of hers to Rohan which draws him towards her completely.

He gets into a deep dilemma if he still loves Navya or was it actually an infatuation or is it just Vaidehi who is made for him! He seeks his sister's help and makes the choice of proposing Vaidehi on the New Year's Eve. Vaidehi and Rohan get inseparable and Rohan invites Vaidehi and his friends to his sister Surbhi's wedding. When everything seems picture perfect, Vaidehi breaks-up with Rohan and goes absolutely "MUTE" without any reasons for five long years.

While all his friends warn Rohan that he is dumped by her Rohan, still believes that she would certainly come back one day because he sensed the spark in her eyes which he had never found in anyone else. Do you think Rohan would end up being with his girl-friend Vaidehi or would he lose her forever?

The story is not complex and easy to understand but at times it becomes too melodramatic and takes a turn towards some Bollywood movie. The scenes of the final letter drafted by Vaidehi to Rohan sounds very artificial and the way he feels her in the hospital and college is way too exaggerated. The content gets mundane during the second half when Vaidehi decides to keep quiet. This bit also transports you to a filmy mood. Had the Bollywood twist not been given to the climax; then this would have definitely been a brilliant piece of writing.

The climax of the book is high on emotions and the author Himanshu has the ability to easily penetrate the readers' mind with his words but should have worked more on giving a real ending to the story. The story could have been a little more gripping because somewhere it becomes too ordinary, predictable and repetitive and that's a buzzkill at times. There are minor grammatical and editing errors in the book.

The characters could have been described a little bit more and that could have made the readers visualize well. The characters of Anna, Vineet, Akash, Chaaru, and Reena are not even touched upon. Their characters are also equally significant as the protagonists. The cover page of the book looks very filmy and glossy and a redesign of it would certainly do justice to the content inside. And henceforth, the same criteria will be used for all novels i.e. taking consideration of the cover, plot, characterization, dialogue and writing style. The plot is pretty catchy as most youth would compare it with day to day lives and having a "mute girlfriend" is what many-a-guy faced in their lifetime. However, uncovering about what mute girlfriend actually means would throw out a major spoiler which is the reason this book has been written.

Let's start with the cover. The cover shows a boy saying something to the girl and she is quite elated about something which doesn't do justice to the context of the novel inside which is far more intriguing yet written with something-close-to-the-heart narrative. It's totally unrelated. Perhaps, we could have seen a few more things but whatever the matter is, one shouldn't judge the book by its cover. 7/10 for me.

The plot of this novel is phenomenal in its own right. There came a time after numerous novels published in India focusing on individual's personal narrative in an engineering college, readers were fed up of love stories. However, these narratives gained a cult status away from the intellectually profound hard work laid down by many authors who prefer keeping a traditional pace and will continue doing so as long as stories like "My Mute Girlfriend" are published. All in all, the plot opens up with quotidian sequences one after the other perfectly and the ending is worth reading through. The author decides to go with the flow like a textbook storyline and throw some insight into the story from the viewpoint of his friends – be it Anurag or Vineet – a fresh new thing which can be the USP of the novel! Little things which sets a novel apart, it was cool. 10/10 for the plot.

Characterisation of this novel was quite common! The story revolves around Rohan, his life through his engineering, his childhood love Navya, his various friends as well as Vaidehi, the girl who swept him from his foot while in college. Now, I realise this is a kind of novel where the author has taken great pains to open up in a way of fiction hence, you cannot expect science fiction androids imposing their superiority on earthlings with their jumbo-master or whatever. You will see cliched characters like a heartbroken engineering student, a girl willfully avoiding him and so on, and this is the one point where narrative based novels fall behind storyline based novels. However, every character is said to fit to the point especially Anurag, the constant friend; Chaaru, the friend of Vaidehi and all the supporting characters including Rohan's parents and elder sister which are far more difficult to build when the story is built around only few people. 6/10.

Dialogue delivery wasn't seen at all in places where I expected it to be. Personal opinion peeps! Personal opinion, only. Down the rating goes. 3/10 Writing style again was pretty generic but a simple tale, amazing finish. Neat apart from a few horrendous error where the author tried to prove his verbose bombastic abilities. The word "nymph" is again derogatory in modern English, as opposed to old English and certainly not a praise which needs to be pointed out. No author needs to do that! If a story is flowing like a normal narrative, just let it be. Bhagat cannot be Tharoor and both of them captivates their readers in a difference way. Rather, if an author tries too much, he may fail to deliver what he intended to. A neat 8/10 for the writing style which suits the everyday tale – good enough for an airport or a train read.

All in all, the cumulative ratings are 34/50 or 3.4 stars out of five. Though I thought I would round it up to 3/5, the ending especially forces the reviewer to leave things lenient. 4/5 for me!

P.S. Never have I given such high ratings for young adult stories, not even that of esteemed authors.

I've read plenty of books on romance, love genre. Little do they realise that they can fade away. However, I must say this book will remain with forever. The feelings it imparts in a reader is worth commenting upon. It lingers for an entire lifetime.

Life is truly amazing sometimes & most of the times hilarious. You never know what it asks or seeks from us. One moment you're happy cherish it, another moment a giant vacuum sucks all happiness from your life. You feel you're blessed & at the same time you realise it's being unfair. Little do we acknowledge the things or people around us, we always tend to take them granted though deep within us we may know that person or time may not come back again.
All I say in short, life is harsh & some stories make us cry. It's painful, tears you apart.

Cover is good. It's beautiful, gives a bollywood touch. Though it could have been better.
Title is apt & goes in hand with the story. It justifies & explains the fact 'mute girlfriend' clearly.
Theme consists of true love, friendship, bond, happiness, pain, sadness, disappointment, joy, family, depth of emotions & many other aspects which makes the book all more worth reading for.
Synchronisation & sequential analysis have been kept intact.
You can visualise the characters, the scenes, the romance portrayed, the love etched on a portrait. Just beautiful, only one thing can be said after reading it, it's painful & beautiful. The characters sing tunes, dance along the head. That part makes it all the more valuable & you just can't stop yourself from finishing it.
The visualisation power induced in a book via writing is one of the most difficult thing when it comes to writing a story & that fact was superbly achieved in this. The reader can visualise the characters, sequence of romance, strings of life, importance of life the depth of emotions via the quotes & situations highlighted across various sections of the book.
Though this book has a striking resemblance to a bollywood movie which I was reminded while reading it watched during my childhood days.
Sometime that will never cease to exist for the few years to come. As that moment you'll realise the story lingers with you as if you had been in the character's shoes & that day & that moment, you'll realise you've fallen not only in love with the book but you've fallen in true love as well..
Another fact to be appreciated is the humor content, the amount of funny situations, examples, instances highlighted by author was truly remarkable as it rejoices & rejuvenates your mood & you can't stop laughing while reading it.
The feeling will never cease to exist in the coming times.
I've caught a cold while reading it as I stood awake till the morning & I must say it was worth it. If I get to read such books throughout the year, I wouldn't regret falling sick again & again!
Yes that's the punishment of reading this book, it hurts you like hell bcoz of the story & tragic way love ends & life is unfair. But you'll also cherish those bittersweet memories & funny real-time realistic situations that trances like a funny child around you.
Overall, I can only say one thing. This is a must read for those who believe in love, who wish to ponder on true love, who are yet to fall in love, for those who are in love.
Language is good, smoothly written, easy to understand. Narration is perfect & goes in sync with the visualisation. Very few minor errors encountered, totally negligible.
A book worth reading & life changing.
A delightful read.

My Mute Girlfriend from the Author Himanshu Rai. We make many memories throughout our life. Some we forget by the time and some which we can't. School and college memories are those which we can't forget throughout our life. We always miss the part of life which we spend with our friends there.
And if we fell in love with someone in this period of life then the memories become more hardwired with our brain and heart.
"My mute girlfriend" is also a school and college romance story. It will take you back to your school days and will compel you to recall your first crush of the school.
Just like Rohan who was lost in his past memories after an incident in which his phone was damaged. That phone was his last hope to hear his mute girlfriend's voice again. He is a telecom professional. So he was going to his head office to get a new handset with the same number. Throughout his journey from meerut to dehradun where he was recalling his past memories. Where he was preparing for his entrance exam to get admission in a good engineering college. But a picture which was placed on his study desk was grabbing his attention again and again. It was a picture of navya and his. Which clicked in the school. As they both are captain and vice captain of the school. Navya was his junior and a girl whom he admired a lot in his school life. She was his first love.
But he never confessed his feelings to her in words and nor did she.
B'coz before confessing his feelings to her he wanted to become adequate for her. . That was a good lesson of the book that if you love someone then become adequate for his/her love.
He was shorted with his life that he would study hard and would get admission in a best college. Thereafter some day he would marry Navya.

But things got changed when Rohan cleared his entrance exams and while selecting the college and branch of his choice his eyes met with a girl. Which compelled him to change his decision. He selected the same college and branch which she selected.
From there the real story begins in which Rohan experiences the hostel life and ragging of the hostel and in college life gradually first he becomes a good friend of Vaidehi and In the second semester he becomes the love of her life.
All was going good between them, they both were enough for each other.
But then A day came from where Vaidehi muted herself for Rohan without giving him any reason she stopped talking to him. He tried negative and positive both ways to get the reason for her muteness.
To know the reason for her muteness, grab your copy today.

Which things I like the most in the book was Rohan's faith in his love. Vedehi stays muted and she wasn't ready to give him any reason for it. But it was Rohan who never gave up on their love. He always knew that she loved him. He has faith that someday she will come back to him.
And the climax of the book was just above of my imagination. While reading the book I estimated many ends of the story but then, when I read the climax of the book I got amazed by it. Which I read that was purely unconditional love.
Thank you so much Himanshu sir for gifting me this unconditional love story to read.
If any filmmaker made a movie adapting this book story. It will become a superhit romantic movie.

LOVE – a four letter world holds an endless sea of emotions. Love never dies with people; true love actually is born when love connects with the soul. 'My Mute Girlfriend' is an epitome of such immense love.

The author narrates his story through the protagonist of the novel, Rohan. Rohan is introduced as an ordinary boy, who is behind his school crush Navya. He thinks that he is truly in love with Navya until he meets Vaidehi, who sweeps him by feet at the very fist sight. He joins the same college opted by her, just because she will be there.

Though Rohan believes Navya is his girlfriend and what he has felt for Vaidehi is just an infatuation, everything upturns once he is into the college. It starts as friendship but soon Rohan finds himself fond of her and slowly his memories of Navya gets faded with time. Vaidehi is shell shocked when she comes to know that Rohan hasn't confessed his love to Navya. But soon the time comes when Rohan realises that what he feels for Vaidehi is true love and he confesses his love to her but unaware that Navya has buried her love for him.

Vaidehi, already being attracted by him, accepts the love by blowing a kiss. Their love tale starts from there but Vaidehi insists Rohan not to reveal their love to anyone; unfortunately, he is unable to hold his secret from his friends. The best part about this love tale is that Rohan has got the best kind of friends who have understood him and support him in his hard time, like true friends are meant to be.

Rohan is very happy with his life until one fateful night. He calls Vaidehi and the response he gets from the other side is quite unexpected. From the very next day, Vaidehi completely turns away from him. She starts ignoring him besides all his craziness and madness. Rohan take immense pain to prove how much he love her but all in vain. He leaves no stones unturned to get her back in life but then Vaidehi turns into a mute girlfriend.

From this part of the story, the readers will be in the verge of tears. The way how Rohan suffers will pin our heart with ache. But then, this story being a reminiscence recalled by Rohan, we will be raised by questions.

What has happened to Vaidehi? Why did she become a mute girlfriend? Did she really show attitude or if not, then what is the reason??
The last part of the story holds answer for these questions and it sure will bewilder you.

Apart from being a true story, the style of writing and the narration of author is done in a remarkable way. The author knows the right way of holding the suspense and curiosity level of the readers. The tale is written in a gripping manner and this makes you want to read it in a go. The words are simple and hand picked in a way that will easily pierce through the heart. The letters included in-between have actually added to the credits.

Being a true tragic tale, this book is sure to give a painful hangover.

Love is undefinable. How lovers lead their lives with and without it is what the book is about. My mute girlfriend is the story of Rohan, who under the throes of love, destroyed and rebuilt his love.

The plot unveils with Rohan smitten with Navya, who had been her schoolmate and childhood sweetheart. In order to make himself eligible for her he concentrates on his studies and manages to get enrolled to an engineering college. While during the counselling, he meets a pretty girl, Vaidehi, who had come to get admission to electronics and telecommunications. Forgetting his desire to study computer science, Rohan too takes admission in the same college for the same subject as hers. So, did he forget Navya?

Once the college starts, Vaidehi, who is known for her egoistic attitude, becomes Rohan's friend. Rohan, who is smitten with Vaidehi forgets his own friends and even Navya who had been secretly waiting for him to propose her. While everything shrunk to the background, there is nothing that mattered to Rohan but Vaidehi. But Vaidehi always wanted to keep their relation under the wraps and takes a promise from Rohan that he wouldn't tell anyone that they are a couple. Rohan, fails to keep the promise and tells his friends about the relation. After the semester break, Rohan finds a different Vaidehi who is apathetic, distant and indifferent. She refuses to even talk to him and becomes his mute girlfriend. It takes years for Rohan to find out the real reason behind her muteness. What is the reason?

Author has crafted the story decently. For a teenager the book will be quite appealing. Rohan's infatuation towards Navya and finally how he forgets her is depicted naturally. We all would have gone through a similar silent crush which we forgets on being in love with another one. There would be such unsaid love in everyone's lives. Hence it seemed quite natural and nostalgic to me. The relation between Rohan and Vaidehi, was depicted without much dramatic sequences and unnecessary love making. It is difficult to see such relations in YA Romance these days. How Rohan forgot his friends is another matter that was handled with care. Rohan's reluctance to smoke is a refreshing change from the protagonists that use weed like chocolate. The climax is what disappointed me. Not only the climax but the whole storyline was quite predicitable. The lack of novelty is a major drawback of the book.

Overall I recommend the book to all teenagers who want to read a nice and good romance.

My Mute Girlfriend is your classic Bollywood love story. The story shuffles between 1998 and 2003. Back in 1998, the protagonist, Rohan Verma, an aspiring engineer, had a crush on his junior from school, Navya. Even at that young age he was certain that he'd spend his entire life with her. But then, after he takes admission in an engineering college, he meets Vaidehi and feels attracted towards her. For a while, Rohan is torn between choosing Navya and Vaidehi and confused about his own feelings but eventually he chooses Vaidehi. They start dating but Vaidehi puts forward a condition that nobody should know about their relationship. When everything seems to be going well, Vaidehi stops talking to Rohan out of the blue. Rohan's life is shattered and despite his earnest efforts he fails to convince Vaidehi to talk to him, thus she turns into his 'mute girlfriend'. Now in 2003, one day Rohan receives a message from Vaidehi and before he can reply his phone gets damaged. The events that follow allow Rohan to uncover the truth of his unanswered questions from the past.

Here's what I did and didn't like about the book.

The hits:

- The story is simple and the book is fast paced. It took me hardly a day to finish the book.
- Rohan is the typical boy next door. His feelings are honest and innocent.
- Despite being cliched, the love story will put a smile on your face at times.
- The college stories about friendship and hostel memories are relatable and enjoyable.

The misses:

- The writing is mediocre. Though it is heartfelt, I believe, it could have been a lot better.
- The teenage love drama is not really my thing. I get that these things actually happen and this book in fact is based on a true story, but honestly, all of it was too corny for my taste.
- I did NOT like Vaidehi's character. Her arrogance really got to my nerves. Although it is revealed in the end why she did what she did, I don't think it was justified. As I said, too dramatic.
- The worldview of the protagonist, Rohan is a little too superficial.

I do not generally read romance stories but I took a chance with this one because the blurb interested me. But unfortunately, I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. If you are a romance lover, give it a try, you may find it better than I did.

'My Mute Girlfriend' is a contemporary  romantic fiction that seems like a very ordinary already read story of Rohan, our male protagonist and his girlfriend Vaidehi. According to the title, this book might be luring to some that provoked me to pick up the book. The story is about the relationship of Rohan with Navya, former's first love or his passion and his relationship with Vaidehi, the titled mute girlfriend.
The couple, Rohan and Vaidehi were totally in love with each other and seemed perfect for each. But suddenly Vaidehi stopped talking and started to avoid Rohan. On the other hand, Rohan was completely devastated and shut by the sudden change in Vaidehi's attitude. He kept on thinking all the possible reasons for her avoidance- did she find someone better? Or was their relationship becoming toxic for her? Was it his fault, that she suddenly disappeared?
Rohan is desperate to sneak into the deep layers of truth to unveil the reason for her sudden behavioral change and to get the answer of all his unanswered questions from the past. The story is simple and fast paced. The character of Rohan is a typical lover boy. His portrayal is honest and real with true emotions linked with him. The storytelling is clichéd but I guess, its not wrong being one. The book is filled with nostalgia and innocence of  first love and school/college memories.these parts are fun and interesting to acknowledge the well known craziness and chaos of boys hostel. The storytelling is the essence of any novel that forms the basic structure of the book but this book had a major flaw in storytelling. The narration was draggy and there are a lot of scopes of improvement in the narrative. I'm not an enthusiast of love stories but to my understanding from the title of the book I was looking forward to a whirl of emotional riots that would stay with me longer. Perhaps, there was a huge lack of creativity but makes my opinion so drastic.

The writing style is lucid and editing is good but unfortunately this book wasn't the level I expected.

"That day I realized I had lost her forever. I had lost her smile, her friendship, her voice… But still, somewhere in my heart, I believed her to be my girlfriend. My mute girlfriend." Rohan is a telecom professional posted in Meerut and misses his girlfriend from college days, who had stopped interacting with him, without giving any reason. Although she had always stood by his side and her eyes reflected immense love, but she remained his mute girlfriend. The book opens with an SMS from Vaidehi to Rohan, after five long years. But before he could reply, his mobile gets damaged and he wanders in his memories to narrate a story. About how his girlfriend became his mute girlfriend after the first year of their engineering college. My Mute Girlfriend is a true romance story of how Rohan unravels the answers to why Vaidehi was mute for so long and how their life is about to change. But little do they know that the worst is yet to come.
Review:
The title, My Mute Girlfriend hints to the readers about something coming up further in story. The novel is a romantic novel drawing much inspiration from the authors own life. the author beautifully captures the journey of college life and college romances. However the romance in the present novel is in a way is different because the girlfriend becomes mute. The novel yet I will say follows a cliched romance story straight out of a Bollywood movie where the boy and girl fall in love with each other, make promises to stay together forever but a tragedy strikes them and thus the circumstances change. The end of the story is rather an unexpected one and people inquisitive about what it is will have to find it out by reading the novel. Since I'm not a fan of romantic novels the story failed to impress me a lot. But that shouldn't stop the readers from picking up the novel as their next read. Some things about the novel that I would appreciate are the language, the supporting characters as friends, the family and the open atmosphere the protagonist is reared into. The language used is clean, beautiful and easy to understand. The book makes up a good average read.
